The attitude towards pleasure reading among youths in the urban areas can in general be classified into two categories: pseudo-active and real-active readers. The former tended to develop consumptive and synergistic attitudes. That is, they not only enjoyed certain popular reading materials, but they are also motivated to consume merchandise and connected cultural industrial products. The latter were usually not influenced by efforts to develop synergistic consumptive attitude. For them, what matters is how they can purchase and read as many as reading materials without being driven to consume other related cultural industrial products.
