Elderly is part of population which causes dilemma. The citizens who are about to enter elderly life encounter drastic changes in their lives: reduced health condition, minimal incomes, and the diminishing social roles both in the family and community. This study found that few elderly in Surabaya have a planned preparation for their future lives, and some of them living in poverty carry the burden of supporting their children. With their limitation, the majority of the elderly are pessimistic about independent lives. The treats of diseases as well as the unavailability of decent incomes are the problems that disrupt the lives of the poor elderly in Surabaya
