The purposes of this study were to determine (1) the syntactic complexity of the Indonesian EFL learners’ argumentative writing in the ICNALE (The International Corpus Network of Asian Learners of English) learner corpus; and (2) whether there were significant differences in the syntactic complexity values of the argumentative essay produced by two groups of learners from B1_1 (Threshold; Lower) and B1_2 (Threshold; Upper) of the CEFR-linked proficiency bands. Lu's L2 Syntactic Complexity Analyzer was used to carry out automatic syntactic complexity analysis of 154 samples of learners' essay in the ICNALE corpus for the two groups of English proficiency. |
