Request is one of the speech acts that people may experience in daily life. Requests speech act can be encountered from many sources in daily life. When we interact with the people around us, there are chances that we will encounter a request speech act in the conversation with the person that we talk to. We can encounter request speech act not only from interacting with people around us but also from places that are not from real-life situations such as film, books, tv series, etc. Studying the request speech act from non-real-life situations is not a new thing. However, there are areas that have not been studied such as from comedy. Sketch comedy is one of the popular types of comedy. The focus of this study is to study the request strategies used in the sketch comedy from a sketch comedy group, Studio C. The finding of this study shows that the most used request strategy found is the mood derivable strategy and the least used strategy is the hedged performative strategy. It is concluded that request speech act in sketch comedy is highly dependent on the theme of the episodes. Most episodes that were analyzed were in informal situations, thus request strategies that are used in informal situation were found a lot. This study also discovers the relationship between request speech act with comedy in Studio C sketch comedy. This study shows that request speech act can be used to create comedy in sketch comedy. |
