Isi artikel
This research investigated semantic priming of nonwords in a timed lexicaldecision task. The nonword letter strings were anagrams of, and orthographically and phonetically similar to, words that were either related or unrelated to previously presented prime words. To compare the nature of priming effects in lexical and nonword decisions, two different stimulus onset asynchronies (SOAs) were used, a short one (250 ms), intended to produce automatic activation of concepts related to the primes, and a long one (1500 ms), intended to produce attentional activation. Priming effects were greater for words at the short SOA than at the long one. Nonwords showed the reverse pattern, with greater priming effects at the long SOA than at the short one.
