Minangkabau known as the region whose people follow matrilineal system. Their philosophy is custom/tradition found upon Islamic law, Islamic law is found upon the Qur'an and Islamic law dictates custom/traditions. It is haram to change this philosophy forever. The purpose of this writing is to express that Minangkabau traditions have to have the root Islam. Minangkabau traditions are not the same level as Islamic teachings. In the point of view of Minagkabau people, the truth is two kids: absolute truth that is come from Allah SWT with the revealation through the Prophet Muhammad SAW and relative truth that the result of human thought based on common sense. Minangkabau people believe that absolute truth never change and never come from relative truth, but the relative truth has to be based on and on and be suited to the absolute truth. The method used in this writing is library study and supported by the writer's experience. It can be concluded, that it is an absolute mistake to say that the religion at the same level of custom or to suit religion to custom. The truth is adat has to be suited to Islam teaching
