Isi artikelThe effect of distractor difficulty on long-term recency effects was investi- gated. In Experiment 1, it was shown that three distractor tasks (hard, medium, and easy summation) differed in difficulty in the Brown-Peterson paradigm. In Experiment 2, subjects studied word lists consisting of nine word pairs in the continuous distractor paradigm. Each item was preceded and followed by the distractor task. Distractor difficulty was manipulated in the distraction periods after the eighth pair and the terminal pair, using the distractor tasks that had an effect in Experiment 1. In the easy condition, large long-term recency effects were observed. However, the magnitude of recency effects decreased as the distractor task became more difficult. These results indicate that long-term recency effects have a short-term store com- ponent.
