Isi artikelPrevious research has reached conflicting conclusions on the question of whether memory for frequency improves as a function of practice. This question was addressed in the present study by having subjects receive six lists of words, each immediately followed by a test requiring relative frequency judgments. Performance on this frequency-discriminationt ask decreased significantly as a function of number of previous lists studied. Discrimination accuracy was significantly correlated with accuracy on adjacent lists. The implications of these results for the hypothesis that frequency information is encoded automatically are discussed
