With its neat rows of brick houses and ample bars and betting shops, the town of Henin-Beaumont, south of Lille, has been battered by job losses and factory closures. Local unemployment of 15.5% is among the country's worst. In the past the Communist Party scooped up the regional discontent. Now the National Front does that job.
