This research aims to look at the student-teachers’ perception on using poetry in teaching English as a Foreign Language. The research was done to 36 students of the English Language Education Department who had taken the class Teaching English through Literature. A questionnaire was administered to see what their perception is regarding using poetry to teach English. The questionnaire was divided into two parts— (1) to check their perception of using poetry in teaching English as a Foreign Language and (2) which poem would they use, classic poems or modern poems, and their reason why to which one they prefer using. They responded positively regarding using poetry to teach English and improve students’ English skills, even though some aspects were disagreed. Most of the participants chose to use modern poetry compared to classic poetry due to its simplicity and easier comprehension. Despite that, the research concluded with the participants positive perception regarding using poetry in teaching English. |
