Abstract
Nonverbal communication is a communication form that uses gestures and body language to convey the information. In EFL classroom context, nonverbal communication is a prominent aspect to achieve successful learning. Gestures and body language gave meaningful and contextual learning for young learners. It also helps teachers to manage the class and give feedback to the students. However, student teachers hardly promote nonverbal communication in their classroom during teaching practicum. This study aimed to find out the use of nonverbal communication by student teachers in teaching practicum. Therefore, the study is intended to answer three issues: The application, the purposes and the types of gestures and body language that are used by student teachers in teaching practicum. The author uses qualitative methods to meet the objectives of this study. The data showed that student teachers integrate nonverbal communication in the class for various purposes according to the needs. They also apply several types of gestures and body language throughout the teaching in the classroom.
