A 55-year-old man with diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema refractory to laser photocoagulation treatment underwent intravitreal injection of 4 mg (0.1 ml) of triamcinolone. On fundus photography performed after the procedure, the triamcinolone crystals are clearly visible as small specks within the vitreous cavity of the left eye (Panel A). Optical coherence tomography performed before the procedure (Panel B) and 4 weeks after the procedure (Panel C) reveals a decrease in central retinal thickness and resolution of cystic spaces after triamcinolone administration. The patient's visual acuity improved from 20/400 to 20/40.
