Abstract
Cross-cultural understanding is an important thing for a leader to have when dealing with a culturally diverse environment. At times, the lack of cross-cultural understanding might potentially lead to conflicts within a company due to the poor cross-cultural leadership style that’s being implemented. This accident has happened at PT. X. PT. X is an ammonia company based in Jakarta with employees originating mostly from Indonesia and India. This study aims to find out which one of GLOBE’s cross-cultural leadership is suitable to accommodate the Indonesian and Indian employees in PT. X using GLOBE’s nine cultural dimensions, in order to prevent further similar conflicts. This study is a single case study using the qualitative method with in-depth interviews conducted towards the employees in PT. X to collect the data. The findings of this study suggest that the Indonesian and Indian employees have relatively high levels on most of the dimensions and high levels on the in-group collectivism and gender egalitarianism dimensions. Based on the findings, this study suggests the suitable cross-cultural leadership style for the employees in PT. X is the team-oriented leadership style because it can accommodate the employees with their cultural characteristics.
