This research presents a case study that aimed to investigate how millennial good language learners of a senior high school learn English, what influences them to be good in English and to describe them in EFL context with a focus on their characteristics, prior experiences, and what strategies are used in relation to learning English as a foreign language. Questionnaire from number one up to seven were given to know about the students’ personal data and about their background of acquiring English before. The eight question was addressed to describe how students practice their activities as the millennial generations. The ninth one was aimed to describe students’ personality. The last ten questions examined how the students learn English towards their personality. The study was conducted with around 110 students at a Senior High School in West Jakarta by using survey design on a five-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed through Descriptive Analysis. The results of this research are summarised into three points. Firstly, participants had similar perceptions of their motivation in relation to English learning. Secondly, though participants had some similar learning experiences, they had their own unique experiences throughout the learning process, most of which demonstrated extra efforts in learning or acquiring the target language. They utilized a different combination of specific strategies and techniques while tackling various language skills and tasks. Last but not least, participants used their English learning strategies through internet devices, such as watching youtube, visiting English online websites, on-line games for learning vocabulary. Implications of the findings are discussed and recommendations for further studies are offered in this thesis. |
