The globalization of the world market is one interesting phenomenon we are witness in in the last decade of the 20th century. With the growth of multinational corporations (MNCs), the competition in such market is relentless. Only those who produce the highest quality, price competitive new product for the marketplace in the least time can stay ahead in the competition. In many cases, that least time - to - market of new product cannot be achieved using the traditional, sequential approach known as sequential engineering (SE). Alternatively, the companies should apply what - so - called concurrent engineering (CE). The purpose of this article is hence threefolds. First, it will describe what CE is including its basic concept, its comparison with SE, its design activities and its practice. Second, the article will discuss about the relationship between CE and the creation of sustainable competitive advantage. Third, the article will propose a product development team (PDT) strategy for effective CE practice (CE practice that supports the creation of sustainable competitive advantage).
