This paper examines factors that contribute to the environment for entrepreneurship in singapore, indonesia, mexico, and the U. S. A. and seeks to determine the key factors that affect individuals' interest in starting a business. Four socio - cultural aspects and six politico - economic factors of the business environment are examined. Results indicated that key predictors of interest in starting a new business include : currently owning a business, high social status of entrepreneurs in the country and favorable competitive conditions.
