In the first part of an interview, David Cieslak, principal, Arxis Technology; Randy Johnston, EVP, Network Management Group Inc and K2 Enterprises; and Rick Richardson, founder and CEO, Richardson Media & Technologies, talked about the tech trends for CPAs in 2012. Cieslak really thinks mobile computing probably has to be one of the most exciting things happening in technology right now. Richardson's favorite new technology this year is near-field communication. It's in Japan in a big way because they have a unified telephone system, and all the carriers use the same protocol. Johnston would suggest that the ultrabook is probably his favorite new technology. Cieslak would say that cloud computing is truly taking what CPAs are doing from an application and a data perspective and truly transitioning it outside their four walls and really giving them the opportunity to have that anywhere, anytime access. However, the top security concern related to cloud computing is access protection itself, said Richardson.
