We first interview characteristics of successfull projects identified in relevant studies and attribute them to four basic managerial functions. Furthermore, firms' performance on these managerial functions are collected under a random sampling framework. Instead of traditional statistical methods, we use a linear structural relationship model (LISREL) to analyze the data. The empirical evidence suggests that effective performance of some managerial functions clearly increses the likelihood of success in cooperative research in taiwan.
