Isi artikel
Although there have been a large number of studies analyzing black adolescents' experiences in their family, no major study has focused on an assessment of potentially dynamic aspects of black adolescent/parent relationships through repeated measurements of the same individuals over time. In an analysis of 278 Southern, urban, black adolescents, this study examined these adolescents' perceived orientations toward their parents on closeness, openness, respect, and susceptibility to moral influence over a three-year period. This study found very few differences over time in perceived orientations. Nevertheless one result replicated itself three times: differences in perceived closeness to the father over time appeared among working-class sons, working-class daughters, and middle-class daughters. Aspects of role theory were used to explain these results.
