Isi artikelA common problem for teachers is dealing with teen students’ lack of enthusiasm to study and it is especially challenging for EFL teachers to deal with teen students’ lack of motivation to speak English in the classroom. The preliminary study conducted in five English for Teens (ET) classes through class observations and interviews with ten ET teachers in LBPP-LIA PAKUAN, BOGOR showed that most teenagers in these classes feel more comfortable to use their mother tongue rather than English. The paper will discuss the investigation on how the Cooperative Learning method improves teen students’ motivation to speak English in the EFL classroom. The most important goal of Cooperative Learning is to provide students with the knowledge, concept, skills, and understanding they need to become happy and contributing members of the society (Slavin, 2001).In the research, every student was encouraged to work together to achieve their goals, motivated to speak English in the classroom, and learned more on responsibility and work ethics. Speaking tests, classroom observations, and questionnaires were held in the ET-8 class to determine the significance of the improvement. The results show that the Cooperative Learning method motivates teen students to speak English in the EFL classroom.
