Isi artikelTo succeed in infusing character building in learning, a technique enabling students to be involved in critical thinking, analysis, and role playing is important. This paper proposes a model of an alternative short functional text and activity for character building in English classes at Senior / Vocational High Schools in Indonesia called Elevator Pitch. The discussion highlights three main points namely what an Elevator Pitch is, what characters are taught in Elevator Pitch, and how it can be implemented in the teaching of English. Through library and field observation, it is shown that Elevator Pitch is a kind of short business presentation emphasizing the novelty and quality of goods or services and exposing characteristics of an entrepreneur. The text structure suggests description (of what a business is about) and explanation (of how it can make money and win the market completion). The contextual approach used in the teaching might make this activity more valuable since the characters and content are applicable outside the English classes.
