Isi artikelThis study aims to find out whether 1). Students are aware of some popular beliefs related to Second Language Learning (SLL), 2). Students believe in those popular beliefs in SLL, 3). Students’ beliefs reflect the way they perceive ways of learning English as a Second Language. The population of this study was 66 students of semester V English Department Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Mataram West Nusa Tenggara. Students were asked to complete questionnaires adapted from Lightbown & Spada’s (2006). These questionnaires were distributed at the first meeting of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) class. The results indicated that 1). All students were aware of the popular beliefs regarding SLL, 2). 50 out of 66 students believed in those popular beliefs while the others were not sure about them and finally, 3). Those 50 students perceived those beliefs as a guide in learning English as a Second Language while the others were not certain about them.
