Isi artikelCharacter building is believed to be most effective in early ages. Building good characters in kindergarten years is thus a good way to start. This paper attempts to integrate character building content with English teaching in kindergarten under one theme, “The Environment”. It explores the use of songs, games, stories, and other activities as ways of building young learners’ character through routines and habit formation. It does so not only by telling them what is right and wrong but also by providing them the environment to feel and do it. It begins with a close look at the related documents including curriculum, syllabus and early childhood education standard. It continues with exploration of some ways to integrate the characters with English teaching as well as development and selection of instructional materials and strategies. It concludes with a presentation of a suggested step by step practical application of the developed materials in kindergarten classrooms, including the teachers’ and children’s roles.
