Isi artikelThe role of family rituals in maintaining kin relationships is examined in four societies which vary in their degree of modernity. Preliminary results show a slightly higher frequency of ritual interaction and visits with kin, particularly over Christmas, in the more modern societies. This appears to contradict Durkheim's law of contraction but further analysis of the data is needed before firm conclusion can be drawn.
