Isi artikelThe sex-related que8tionnaire used by the senior author in his cross-cultural research of 1958 was readministered to comparable university groups in 1968, in an attempt to throw new light on the existence or non-existence of a so-called sexual revolution. Attitudes concerning premarital coitus were found to have liberalized considerably during the decade for both sexes (especially strong for females) and in both the Danish and the two American cultures studied. Premarital coital behavior, on the other hand, increased less dramatically or (in the case of American males) not at all. The relatively more rapid change in attitudes has meant a decline in value-behavior discrepancy. The relatively greater liberalization of females has meant an intersex convergence of both attitude and behavior. Trends regarding commitment in the relationship and measurable consequences following the act-as these relate to the sex norms of the three subcultures-are also reported.
