A comparison of the family status of older persons who have remained in their home communities with that of retirees who have moved from the Midwest to Florida and Arizona indicates that migrants tend to be more isolated from their children than nonmigrants. However, this isolation is not as widespread as was hypothesized, and is found to be a function more of the residential mobility of children than the postretirement migration of their parents.
