Isi artikel
Questionnaire items measuring four attitudes which motivate having children were completed by a sample of women 18 years of age and over. Multivariate analysis was used to ascertain the existence of a causal influence of educational level and religion on attitudes. Religion appeared to have a direct causal relationship with two of the attitudes among women having up to 12 years of schooling and under $4,000 income who attended church every week, with Protestants accepting these attitudes less than Catholics. It was also found that, of the four attitudes measured, the one most strongly accepted was that it is a woman's main responsibility in life and her social duty to bear children.
