In the process of hard chrome plating is often found defects in the form of micro cracks due to the shrinkage of the volume of the layer so that it induces tensile tensile stresses that cause cracks. The emergence of micro cracks causes a decrease in corrosion resistance on the surface of the workpiece. In this study will be repeated by plasma nitriding method. Re-coating is done using temperature variations at 350°C, 400°C, and 450°C as well as variations in holding time for 2, 4, and 5 hours. The coating results of hard chrome plating and coating repairs with the plasma nitriding process are characterized by hard and metallographic tests. From the results of characterization it is known that at a temperature of 450°C and a holding time of 5 hours has the highest hardness with an optimal thickness layer 7.53 µm, but the CrN compound has not been fully formed. |
