In recent years there has been an increase in the marriage rate of older persons. To a marked degree the success of older marriages is affected by prevailing attitudes and beliefs existing in the surrounding social milieu. The purpose of this article is to examine the attitudes of a sample of college students toward older marriages and to probe the subjects' perceptions of why older people marry and of subsequent marital problems. Attitudes toward older marriages were found to be significantly related to the students' sex and religion, their previous contacts with older persons, type of community in which they had lived, the education of the head of their families, and their fathers' occupation.
