Isi artikel
A New Orleans sample of families are studied from a structural and developmental point of view. The significant differences between Negroes and whites in the distribution of family types in the sample is largely accounted for by the number of Negro families which begin with the birth of an illegitimate child. Various associations between race, class, age, and living with relatives at the origin of the family are explored. The sequences of family types in which women lived following the birth of an illegitimate child are given in detail. Age at pregnancy affects this sequence.
