| This paper which is entitled Adjective Clause and Its Participial Phrase is a research report I have just completed on the topic. The background of this study is the fact that adjective clause can be presented in participial phrase with similar or the same meaning. The problem is that applying participial phrase instead of using adjective clause is not always easy. The objectives of this study are to see whether both adjective clause and participial phrase are used proportionally in articles published in Jakarta Post. In more detailed analysis which types of adjective clause and participial phrase are used and which types are used the most and the least frequently. The data are limited to ten articles published in Jakarta Post. This research would be significant for students who are learning the adjective clause and participial phrase and the teacher who teaches such topics. This research was conducted, firstly, by selecting randomly ten articles the length of each is more or less 500 words published in Jakarta Post; secondly, reading through one by one article; thirdly, identifying the adjective clause and the participial phrase used in each article; fourth, copying each sentence containing adjective clause and participial phrase then placing it in a summary table for each article and underlining the adjective clause and the participial phrase; finally, categorizing each adjective clause, using who, which, that, whom, whose, no pronoun, where; and participial phrase according to its type, present participle (-ing form) and past participle (-ed form) in a summary table to see the frequency of each type of adjective clause and participial phrase. |
