Isi artikel
Despite claims by some family sociologists on the universality of the nuclear family, we find in Hutterite colonies a pattern of family life which defies classification. Though the husband is the recognized head of the household, each marriage forms an auxiliary unit of the colony, not a full fledged conjugal family. The family, being subservient to the church, loses its economic functions and part of authority, training, and discipline over children, all of which weaken its influence. Through religious sanction, however, the family tends to have successful and stable relationships. This is postulated as the way to maintain the colony's cohesion and stability.
