Since no previously standardized test was found that precisely fitted the investigator's needs for measuring student achievement in a functional class in marriage adjustments, this study presents the rationale for and procedures used in developing a free. response schedule for such measurement. The devised schedule was tested for reliability of scoring, sensitivity of the instrument, and reliability of the revised instrument. Critical levels of probability were met in every case. An appraisal of the methodology is made.
