Isi artikel
In order to determine which system, extended or nuclear family, functions better to protect children from accidents, questionnaires and interviews were conducted with the mothers of the 151 Oriental children who are enrolled in the Kaiser pre-paid medical plan in California. It was hypothesized and tested that acculturated Oriental children have more accidents than nonacculturated ones. The extended family seems to serve better in protecting the child from hazards. However, the family environment-whether extended or nuclear-full of tension and conflict, is not suitable for developing the child's ability to cope with hazards.
