Isi artikelThis study of second-grade public school children examines a relatively neglected aspect of parent-child interaction, the child's perception of his father. The specific question raised is whether intermittent prolonged father absence affects the child's perception of him as a Love and Authority figure. Differences between father-present and father-absent groups are small and generally nonsignificant. The results are at seeming variance with the few other reported studies of father absence. This may be due to characteristics peculiar to the families studied or to the fact that only perceptions were dealt with, and these on only two dimensions of parental behavior.
