A record linkage study of first marriages and births, combined with questionnaire returns from brides and an examination of divorce records in a county of northwestern Ohio, generally confirms previous findings about marriage age, premarital pregnancy, and marital stability. The findings differ from those of earlier inquiries-particularly those of Christensen-in the mean age of women marrying for the first time. The findings also show a heavy concentration of premarital pregnancies among the very young, and indicate that divorce-at least for the first few years-is largely restricted to minor women. Divorce is high among these young brides, but much higher among those who went out of the county to marry.
