Isi artikelThere was a time when the names of posh condominiums in Singapore were just pompous (The Legacy) or cheesy (Rhapsody on Mt Elizabeth). At least they were in a recognised language. Just as the English language has taken a pounding, so have people's wallets. An apartment in The Marq on Paterson Hill recently sold for an unheard-of S$5,842 ($4,717) per square foot. In 2010, 17,645 units (private homes or apartments) were sold, way above the records achieved at the peak of booms in 1997 and 2007. Prices have been rising in all segments of the market, not just in the swish condos. Historically low interest rates mean extraordinarily cheap mortgages.
