This classroom action research is aimed to increase the student"s appreciation of poem in class VII of SMP 3 Banguntapan with approach of contextual art reception. This method is chosen because students in SMP 3 Banguntapan until now are not anthusiasm in studying poem appreciation. For them it is not interesting. Students never involve actively to the studying process. So this research tries to apply the contextual art reception in the study of poem apprecation to make it interesting, attractive, and being a joyful learning so that will increase the student"s appreciation to the art especially the poem. The classroom action research has done in class VII of SMP 3 Banguntapan in 2008/2009. The amount of the students are 36. It include two part of research containing two periods in each part. Every part has fair steps af activity that are planning, action, observation, and reflection. The writer uses students enquete as instrument, list of volve of student"s art appreciation. The result of this research indicates that there was not studying process value yet in the first part, students were still passive even the discuccion did not work. Presentation still couldn"t be done. Students found difficulty to analyse poem. Creative writing activity had no result. In part two, students analysed poem again with the guided questions and the selected poem according to their real life. Discussion started to run, students could do presentation, students seemed to being motivated. In this part, students seemed to happy and were enthusiast in studying. Their appreciation increased following by a good response to the art and poem especially.
