Abstract
Rice is one of the staple food in Indonesia. Ironically, the high demand of rice in Indonesia cannot be fulfilled by the local production. One of the causes is the deterioration of the rice due to its high moisture contained inside. A slow drying speed from conventional method like sun drying could be one of the causes. Rotary Dryer offers a better drying speed than the conventional method or any other drying instruments in general. By heating the wall of the drum, the heat loss from the inner side can be minimalized, resulting in the increased drying speed. This final project utilized a design method. The dimension of this rotary dryer drum is 1 meter long, with a diameter of 15 centimeter. It can dry out 5 kg rice grain from the initial moisture content of 21,94% to 15,04% in an hour, with drying temperature of 58°C and average relative humidity of 41%.
