Abstract
The progress of product technology and metal raw materials cannot be separated from the utilization of welding technology. Welding process is a common joint process used in the shipping industry. Butt joint is the most efficient type of joint. Butt joint type is one of the most common joint types in a ship building process. Material used this time is AISI 1050 steel with welding GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding). This type of welding is done by welding MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and following the AWS (American Welding Society) standard. Each type of construction joint has different types of joints that require that the joint is of good quality. Quality testing is done by hard test, photomicrode test and tensile test. Welding with the recomended joint is a Single Bevel Grove weld (corner joint) joint model because it has the highest strength. Where the highest tensile strength with welded reinforcement is not leveled at 309,756 Mpa and highest tensile strength with welded rein which leveled equal to 247,128 Mpa.
