Abstract
Fixed wing trainer UAV is a UAV used in training tofly aeromodelling aircraft such as Cessna TS40. Fixed wing surveillance UAV is a UAV used for aerial documentation such as TS 1122 – Dart Pro 3. This final project aims to increase the flight duration of Cessna TS40 thusit can be used as a surveillance aircraft. The increase in flight duration can be achievedby replacing the originally installed NACA 6312 airfoil with one that has a greater Cl/Cd. This research was conducted by varying the camber, the maximum positon of camber, and the thickness of NACA 6312airfoil. Simulations were performed using ANSYS Fluent. The velocity used in the simulations is 15 m/s. For the camber testings, the optimal Cl/Cdis achieved by NACA 4312. For the testings of maximum position of camber, NACA 6312 is found to generate the highestCl/Cd. The last set of tests on thickness variation shows that NACA 6306 has the highest Cl/Cd.Overall, NACA 6306 has the greatest Cl/Cd among all the airfoils tested and this is selected for flight test. An increase in flight duration of 26,954 % is observed during flight tests of Cessna TS40 with NACA 6306 airfoil as compared to the original NACA 6312.
