Anjan Chatterjee, with help from a Softbank fund, is building India's first serious restaurant chain. The main brand is Chinese. Anjan Chatterjee is a 49-year-old Mumbai adman whose attention to consumer tastes has helped to turn him into India's outstanding chain restaurateur as well. Chatterjee has 52 dining spots, most serving distinctive ethnic or regional food (the biggest brand is called Mainland China) across 11 cities, including 3 abroad-Beijing, London and Dhaka. Now he wants to expand to second-tier Indian cities and double his store count in a run-up to a stock market listing next year.
