This article provides an update of the status of laws affecting stepfamilies. Four legal areas are reviewed: (a) stepparents supporting their stepchildren during the marriage and following divorce, (b) stepchildren inheriting from a deceased stepparent, (c) stepparents receiving custody of stepchildren following termination of the remarriage, and (d) stepparents visiting stepchildren following divorce.
