Isi artikel
Restless Shah Faisal is opening the way to Pakistan for Major Chinese players. It's budding bilateral business on the back of an old alliance. Pakistan and China have been allies since the late 1950s, as both have been pitted against India. Today the Chinese are offering the cash-strapped Pakistani government a different kind of help-investment in its private sector. In return China gets to expend its economic footprint. Trade between the two countries, though tiny in the global scheme, has burgeoned from $1 billion in 2000 to $7 billion in 2008 and is expected to hit $15 billion next year. Of the 500 foreign companies in Pakistan, 12% are Chinese, the highest share of anywhere in South Asia.
