Isi artikelHuman rights are a complex phenomenon, comprising an array of different aspects. They have a moral life, expressing urgent human concerns and claims that must not be violated or ignored, anywhere on the globe; they also have a legal life, being enshrined in national constitutions and in lists of basic rights, as well as in international declarations, covenants, and treaties; and they have a political life, expressing standards of basic political legitimacy. Hence, they are a perennial topic in the political realm, both nationally and transnationally, raising questions about whether they are fullfield or violated and how violations could be avoided or sanctioned.
