Abstract
Background : Clinical clerkship students with night shift duty programme in Atma Jaya Hospital is vulnerable to academic stress and is at risk of having weight changes. Therefore, this study is to determine the association between academic stress and weight changes.
Methods This is a 'one group pretest - posttest' study with 103 clinical clerkship students from Atma Jaya Hospital conducted as respondents. Academic stress was measured with academic stress questionnaire and weight changes was measured by measuring the changes of weight in the first week of entering clerkship and the last week of clerkship. Data analysis was performed by using chi-square.
Result : This study shows 67% of clinical clerkship students with night shift programme (internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and obstetric and gynecology) is exposed to severe stress and 92.2% is having weight changes (48.5% weight gain and 43.7% weight loss). However, there were no significant association between academic stress and weight changes (p = 0.490).
Conslusion : Clinical clerkship students in Atma Jaya Hospital is exposed to academic stress and is having weight changes in the 10th week. However, statistically, there is no significant association between academic stress and weight changes.
