Isi artikelTo gain a competitive edge, OEMs are increasingly outsourcing noncore activities such as manufacturing, IT, accounting, sales, and human resources. Engineering and product development are among the last areas affected by this trend. Companies need to focus on their core business activities and, for most, this does not entail providing engineering services to their customers. Therefore, firms can potentially outsource large portions of R&D. Important factors to consider include: 1. lower costs, 2. overload, 3. innovation, 4. productivity, and 5. expertise. While costs will initially be higher, companies will benefit in the long run. Some helpful tips are: 1. Be specific. 2. Be patient. 3. Communicate. 4. You must be realistic. 5. Ensure buy-in. 6. Avoid "last-resort" outsourcing. 7. Look for companies with the specialized expertise and experience. 8. Check financials. 9. Make sure you have a positive working rapport with the chosen company and individuals.
