Abstract
Background: The growing population of elderly, especially in Indonesia has become a concern for society. One of many things that often happen with the increase of age
is cognitive decline. This research focuses on factors that contribute to cognitive decline in elderly, especially spirituality in elderly.
Methods: This is a cross sectional study done in West Jakarta in year 2016. The samples were elderly who visited PUSAKA West Jakarta and elderly in Kristoforus

Spirituality in elderly was assessed using the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) and the assessment of cognitive function in elderly was done by using the Mini Mental Examination Scale (MMSE). Data analysis were performed by using chi square with confidence interval 95% (a= 0.05).
Results: Significant association between spirituality level and cognitive function in elderly were found (p= 0.028). 67.2% of elderly with high spiritual level did not have
cognitive impairment. There were no significant association between age and cognitive function (0.993), marital status and cognitive function (p= 0.078).
Conclusion: Significant association were found between spirituality level and cognitive function in elderly. However, no significant association were found between age and cognitive function, and marital status and cognitive function.
