being exposed to infectious agents. In 1985 Centre for Disease Control and Prevention created a guideline for reducing the risk of infection among healthcare workers, called Universal Precautions, furthermore this guideline is updated to Standard Precautions in 1996. Unfortunately, most of the HCW do not have the adequate knowledge of Standard precautions. Only 28% of those received the lecture of Standard Precautions in their educational years.
Methods: This research is a descriptive analytical cross-sectional study. A standardized questionnaire was completed by 195 preclinical students year 2014 and 2015 to seek their knowledge, attitude, and practice towards standard precautions in Faculty of Medicine of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia.
Results: The outcome showed that 73% of the respondents have adequate knowledge towards standard precautions, 98% have positive attitude towards standard precautions, and 90% have good practice towards some of the standard precautions especially regarding hand hygiene practices. There are significant correlations between knowledge and attitude, attitude practice, also knowledge and practice, with p value <0.05.
Conclusion: There are significant correlations between knowledge and attitude towards standard precautions (p=0.005), attitude and practice (p=0.003), and knowledge and practice. (p=0.000).
