Background: Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is the main biomineral component of hard tissue like bones and teeth. HAp have many advantages like good biocompatibility, good osteoconductive, and good osteoinductive. HAp can be used for coating and used as filler. HAp can be synthesized with thermal decomposition process which economic, eco-friendly, and biologically safe. Method: Experimental study was done by extracting HAp with calcination at 600oC and 900oC from bovine bones, characterization, mechanical testing, and toxicity test. Result: HAp was successful extracted from bovine bones. Calcination at 600oC indicate amorph HAp and calcination at 900oC indicate crystalline HAp. HAp 600oC have 1,55 Ca/P ratio while HAp 900oC have 1,72 Ca/P ratio. Hardness of HAp 600oC is 47 HV and HAp 900oC is 57,3 HV. Conclusion: HAp which calcinated at 900oC is better than HAp that calcinated at 600oC. |
